Celebration, Fla., Sept 19, 2005 – eLEC Communications Corp.’s (OTCBB: ELEC) wholly owned subsidiary VoX Communications, a wholesale and retail provider of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services nationwide, today announced it has provided customer access devices and Wi-Fi IP phones to FEMA to aid in the relief effort currently being performed in storm-torn New Orleans and related areas. The Wi-Fi phones are utilizing DSSI’s Wireless network that was unaffected by the recent storms.
“VoX was one of the carriers able to turn on a dime and provide services into the disaster areas and in particular was one of very few companies able to deploy ATAs and Wi-Fi phones that would work effectively anywhere that still had Internet access. This equipment was delivered immediately following the storm, and most of it has already been deployed. Our friends at UTStarcom are heading up the effort as command and control. We are happy to step up to the plate and help in any way we can,” said VoX Communications’ CIO Mark Richards.
“Certainly, all the bad press regarding the lack of telecommunications services has to be balanced with the fact that IP phones work anywhere and do not suffer the damage that traditional telephony systems do when terrible disasters like this one hit – a major win for VoIP. VoX has technology deployed that is able to survive an entire data center loss or even that of an entire city, as in this case. I believe the entire industry will move to VoIP, it is just a question of time. We are happy to be a leading edge company that can help pioneer these types of systems and we are even happier that through our technology, we are able to offer a helping hand to people who are clearly suffering many different challenges.”
